I am thinking about buying a PS3, but I was wondering if they will play Japanese Playstation 2 or one games even if it is bought in the States.

With the PS3, the only region-free products for it are the PS3 games. PS2 games and all movies (Blu-Ray and DVD) are still region-locked.

Not that I know of. Most chips are for the PS2 ATM and there hasn't been any news on any specific chip for the PS3... |

Sony is one hell of a fanatic DRM loving company, if they ever released any of their products without some form of DRM protection after the year 1997, it must have been a pure mistake. Unless of course you are talking about headphones, etc.
